Approx. 40 bucks for RCN one way cable with 3 Mbps d/l (and after reading this forum, God knows how slow the U/L is) or Epix Jack Flash 640K/160K DSL for $50.00 per month... Thoughts. |

If you like frequent (at least once a day) disconnects and power cycle resets, 1Mbit speeds, 300msec minimum latency, the cost ($15) of another phone line for the analog return. You *might* get 3Mbit on every other fifth tuesday of months not containing an "r" in their name. Let me put it another way: I was never so happy with my Internet service as I was the day my Verizon DSL went live. |

srr2 join:2001-12-20 Pipersville, PA | srr2 Member 2004-Mar-23 9:28 am Good luck with that one. Take a very careful look at their TOS. Last time I looked they had verbiage in there that said something about (I may be mis-remembering this) 'only two PCs connected to the service' (and that meant *behind* your router), and other, fairly silly, restrictive language. I could have had SECTV/Prolog (both SECTV and RCN) on the poles at my location), but was put off by their customer-hostile attitude. I'd like to hear about your experience signing up with them and how they perform. I wonder where you're supposed to post on SECTV/Prolog on BBR? 8-) |

gmattox join:2002-09-24 Pen Argyl, PA | gmattox Member 2004-Mar-23 12:20 pm I have both options for Cable here, but only SECTV is offering 2 way, and that just happened this week. I would rather take my chances with the 2 way than have to deal with telco return. And this means I can ditch my monopolistic telephone company, because I only used my phone line for internet. Good ole cell phones. As for the only 2 pc's restriction, I am pretty sure they still have that, but I only have 2 pc's (desktop and laptop) and really, could they tell if I had more than 2 going through my wireless router? Anyway, this was the only choice that made sense for me. They are currently offering me the 800/400 , but the guy I spoke to yesterday claims 1000 both ways in the next few months, and 3000 both ways within the year... I am sure he was mistaken, but we'll see. I was really spoiled in New Jersey, I had VOL DSL (1500/128) and was going to switch to OOL(5000/1000) right before I moved to the boonies. stay tuned, I will keep you updated... |

I didnt even know 2 way was available until I called them on Tuesday. I spoke to a guy named Baron in the Internet dept and he quoted me those speeds. Like you said and I posted previously, I am sure he was mistaken with the upload, but as long as I get 3 Mbps down I will be happy... They come to install today, I will let you know what happens. |

I wish RCN would upgrade, but with all their problems right now I don't see that happening anytime soon. 3000 both ways is VERY unlikely. I doubt they will even have the 1000/1000 they claim in the next few months. I'm sticking with my one way cable in hopes of them upgrading me eventually, because as of now I download very fast at 4518 down. Of course the [sarcasm]amazing[/sarcasm] is at 24kbps, but I am not a big uploader anyway. |

gmattox join:2002-09-24 Pen Argyl, PA | gmattox Member 2004-Mar-24 1:30 pm I am on the low side of town, near Main St. I was going to take that RCN deal, but I do some uploading (I design websites) and some online gaming, so that 24 kpbs would have killed me. I will be happy if the download gets anywhere near 3 Mpbs in the next year, forget about the upload. This (400) is plenty quick for what I need to do... |

Ah, I know where that is... I just drove by not long ago I wondered who else was testing from around here when I saw someone in the archive, not sure if it was you though. Odds of two people being here from this tiny little area is quite small I thought. But yeah, I would like a higher upload, but for me download is better, so I'll take what I can get with these guys. I can't see spending more for a third of the download speed, and not that great of an upload either. This area needs some more solutions for people who wants high speed internet. |

davidcb13 join:2004-02-06 Branchville, NJ | davidcb13 Member 2004-Mar-24 4:04 pm Yea we defiantly need some more options for high speed where I live (n. NJ) its 600/33 kbps one way cable or dialup. I think that all SECTV areas will upgrade to 3/356 just a guess though. Here I am still waitin for two way to be instaled estimates r 6-9 months |

gmattox join:2002-09-24 Pen Argyl, PA | gmattox Member 2004-Mar-25 8:05 am Well, they took their first shot at installing the cable and ... no upload signal. The tech called in to the office and they confirmed that 2 way is available, but I cant get an upload signal. They are sending out a different tech to take a look at the settings on the pole, but I am willing to bet that even though they say their is two way, its not working properly yet. |

| SeattleMatt Premium Member 2004-Mar-25 9:20 am Gmattox- Most likely they need to adjust the filters on the line. At my parents house, even though the service was active, the modem would not acquire an upload signal until the tech came out and placed a filter on the cable modem drop. Supposedly this is a SECV thing that they do. Keep us posted how it turns out today. |

gmattox join:2002-09-24 Pen Argyl, PA | gmattox Member 2004-Mar-25 12:35 pm My wife just called and said that the internet is now working. I had her run a preliminary test on nyc.speakeasy.net and it came back 634/379... not bad for a system tweaked for dial up. I will mess with it when I get home. I also had her ask the technician there about our Cable TV. Channels over 100 are very fuzzy. He said that the cables in the area are very old, and that they are out rewiring the town now, so everything will get better. Thats also when the internet will go to 3 Mbps... |

I will post a link later when I get home. It slowed a little bit last night (about 540/350) but that was at a busier time of day when everyone is home. Still alot better than dialup, and it will rock when the upgrade is done. |
