Good Morning Rivesville!
I hope everyone is well. Can you tell fall is in the air? The mornings are a little cooler, it’s getting dark earlier, the night air is a little different. Oh where did our summer go?
I would like to encourage the residents in Rivesville to give our new Police Chief Danny Camden a big hearty welcome. Chief Camden has been with the town of Rivesville since May 14. He has 30 years of experience and I’m sure he will be an asset to the Town of Rivesville. The Town is also blessed to have Bill Runyan Jr. who brings 27 years of experience with him and will work along with Chief Camden part time as needed. If you are out and see either of these officers stop them and introduce yourself.
Rivesville Elem/Middle School will hold a welcome back to school on Monday, August 19. There will be two sessions — 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. Incoming 6th grade are to attend the 6 p.m. session. The first day of school is August 21, students arrive at 8 a.m., dismissal begins at 3:20 p.m.
The Shepherd’s Love Food Pantry will distribute food Saturday, August 17 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Please arrive before 11:30. If you need an emergency food box, call Gary at 304-534-2950.
The Union Mission of Fairmont will hold a backpack giveaway on Thursday, August 22 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. or 4-5 p.m. Backpacks are filled with supplies.
The 3rd annual Back to School Bash will be held Saturday, August 17 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Mannington Church of the Nazarene, 31 Nazarene Lane. There will be backpack giveaways, inflatables, free haircuts, dunk tanks, spin art, free hot dogs, popcorn and more.
Hagans Community Church has changed the date of their car show from Saturday, August 17 to Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All vehicles welcome. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors and other off road vehicles. Registration is $10 and begins at 9 a.m. Free for spectators and visitors. Kids activities from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be live music, raffles, food and prizes. HCC is located at 1637 Hagans Road in Core, WV 26541.
McCutchan’s Car Show will be held at East Fairmont High, 1993 Airport Rd., Fairmont, August 24 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For more info call 304-376-5464 or email mccutchanhvac@gmail.com.
A clothing giveaway will be held at Pumpkin Center Church of Christ, 18 Darrah Lane, Fairview from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.There will be clothing for men, women and children. If you have any questions call 304-449-1168.
Fairmont Catholic
August 21 grades 1-8 return to class, August 23, Kindergarten begins and on August 26, PreK begins.
Marion County Food Pantry will be held August 30 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Palatine Park, Everest Drive, Fairmont.
All you ice cream lovers out there take note of the ‘Back to school hours” for Dairy Cream Corner is Sunday-Thursday close at 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday close at 10 p.m.

I would like to send condolences out to Eraina Gower on the passing of her dad, Richard Wolfe. There are many thoughts and prayers with you at this time. Eraina is the water clerk for the town of Rivesville. Also prayers for all the family and friends,
As school starts next week I’m going to share something you may want to share with your kids, grandkids, neighborhood kids, you get the drift.

another student being picked on,
a student who is new, shy, or not with the “in” crowd,
a student who is eating lunch alone,
BE A LEADER! BE A WARRIOR!
Say hi, smile at them, ask if you can sit with them, include them.
You never know what that person is facing inside or outside.
You be the change, let’s make this a no bullying school year!
